AARP

Before I started this course, I thought AARP was basically a powerful, political organization representing senior citizens on legislative issues and offered senior discounts to various businesses. AARP stands for American Association of Retired Person. A person has to be 50 to be eligible to join AARP, the person does not need to be retired.

AARP is so much more than that!!! AARP is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that helps people 50 and over to improve their quality of life. The website offers information on a huge variety of subjects on every aspect of life to include health, money, personal growth, food, travel, games and technology.

Apparently, being on the cover of the AARP magazine is a coup for celebrities. Recently Dennis Quaid, Bruce Springsteen on the cover. Valerie Bertinelli turned 50 and was on the cover the next month.

The most current and applicable information I am finding on my poster subject is coming from AARP. I am researching "Aging In Place" and the website has several articles related to this subject including a village model to help people remain in their homes by offering community support.

AARP is a valuable resource for people over 50, but also for anyone interested in helping older people. The AARP website is: www.AARP.org
