Awesome Visit to Learning Services

I really enjoyed visiting Learning Services today. It was great to actually see what we will be doing when we are on field work. The clients were very interesting and engaging. They answered all the questions about their challenges and disabilities and allowed us to practice on them. I learned so much about people with brain injuries and it was nothing like what I thought it would be.

Ms. Marcus and Ms. Gonzalez offered great insight to activities for therapy. Also the clients obviously love Ms. Gonzalez and are willing do whatever they can for her.

Thanks for arrange this opportunity for us!

  1. I agree with the visit to Learning Services being awesome. Finally, I was able to see OT in the "real world". The client's were so unique, whether telling jokes, asking way too many questions, or dancing by the railing outside. We, as OTA's, have many challenges ahead. Providing therapy to accomodate so many different limitations,is one of the many challenges we face moving forward. Observing Ms. G and Ms. M as they interacted with the three men yesterday, was both educational and inspiring. It was great to see that interaction between therapist/client. The activities were focused on many needs: cognitive, social, fine motor, visual...
One of the many things that struck me yesterday, was the fact that we got to see the photos, drawings, and decorations that some residents had in their rooms. What a beautiful reminder of what 'was'. But now we move forward with what 'is'. A daunting task maybe, but also very hopeful and promising!
